Whether to ease your mind about the potential for skin cancer or help you feel more comfortable and confident in your appearance, we can arrange the precision removal of a benign mole or growth.
Moles and cysts are some of the most commonly removed benign growths. Each is quite different from the other. For this reason, the method of removal will also be fundamentally different.
Moles are seen on just about everybody. Often these growths are the result of sun damage that causes an increase in melanin. A mole is essentially a grouping of melanocytes, color-producing cells in the epidermis. Moles may be brown, black, pink or flesh toned and may be a range of sizes.
Usually, moles are not a significant cause for alarm. We understand, however, that a suspicious-looking growth of any kind may be distressing. In our Tampa office, we use advanced instruments to examine the skin for the earliest detection of abnormalities.
When necessary, we are happy to schedule the appropriate method of removal for a mole as well as microscopic examination to rule out skin cancer.
Cysts are small pockets of tissue encased in a capsule. Most cysts develop in an area where a hair follicle has inverted itself from the skin’s surface into the deeper skin layers. There are instances in which a cyst forms around an object perceived as a foreign body, such as an earring. Areas on which cysts may form including the back, neck, face, and scalp.
Typically, this type of growth will feel like a small hard nodule beneath the skin.
Without treatment, most cysts continue to enlarge. At some point, this growth may burst, causing inflammation in surrounding tissue as well as discomfort. To protect healthy tissue and prevent pain, removal of a cysts may be recommended.
