Several conditions may be best treated with a dermatologic surgical procedure. Depending on the findings of diagnostic evaluation, a surgery may involve only the surface layer of tissue or may extend to deeper tissues. With an extensive education and background in dermatology, Dr. Lombardi achieves excellent results that give patients peace of mind and renewed confidence in the health and appearance of their skin.

What is Dermatologic Surgery?
Dermatologic surgery is not a single type of procedure. The way surgery is performed will largely depend on factors such as the depth and location of a lesion or growth. In some cases, snipping or shaving off a growth with a surgical scissor or scalpel is all that is required.
Surface lesions may also be addressed with liquid nitrogen, which freezes cells and causes the growth to fall off naturally and painlessly. Surface level cancers, skin tags, age spots and certain moles may be removed with one of these methods or with the use of specialized light or electric instruments.
Some surgeries involve excising a growth, or cutting it out. Such procedures are performed with local anesthetic that numbs tissues before treatment. Some birthmarks, fatty tumors, cysts and certain moles may require excision.
Skin cancers such as melanoma are also often treated with excision. This procedure may require sutures or reconstructive care to minimize scarring.
Patients who visit Dr. Lombardi are treated with the utmost care we can provide. If scarring is an issue, we provide laser treatment to improve the appearance of the skin.
Inpatient or Outpatient?
Due to advances in techniques and anesthetics, most dermatologic surgeries can now be performed safely and comfortably in our sterile outpatient setting. Patients are often able to resume normal activities very soon after their procedure, taking care not to stretch skin in the treatment area.
